چکیده
We simulate the evolution of relativistic electrons injected into medium a small galaxy cluster by central radio galaxy, studying how initial jet power affects dispersal and emission properties plasma. By coupling passive tracer particles to adaptive-mesh cosmological MHD simulations, we study cosmic-ray are dispersed as function input power. also investigate latter thermal non-thermal intracluster medium, with differences discernible up $\sim$ Gyr after start jet. evolved energy spectra electrons, subject losses that dominated synchrotron inverse Compton well gains via re-acceleration shock waves turbulence. find in absence major mergers amount experienced is not enough produce long-lived detectable emissions. However, for all simulations role processes crucial maintain significant volume-filling reservoir fossil ($\gamma \sim 10^3$) several Gyrs first injection jets. This important possibly explain recent discoveries cluster-wide other phenomena clusters.

Anomalous transport of cosmic ray electrons
Anomalous transport processes in which the variance of the distance travelled does not necessarily increase linearly with time: 〈 ∆x 〉 ∝ t with 0 < α < 2 are modelled using the formalism of continuous time random walks. We compute particle propagators which have the required dependence on space and time and use these to find the spatial dependence of the synchrotron radiation emitted by a popul...
متن کاملTime Delays in Cosmic Ray Propagation
Cosmic Rays (CR) travel at speeds essentially indistinguishable from the speed of light. However whilst travelling through magnetic fields, both regular and turbulent, they are delayed behind the light since they are usually charged particles and their paths are not linear. Those delays can be so long that they are an impediment to correctly identifying sources which may be variable in time. Fu...
متن کاملCosmic - Ray Electrons and the Diffuse Gamma - Ray Spectrum
Short Title: Cosmic-ray electrons and diffuse gamma-ray spectrum 1 Abstract The bulk of the diffuse galactic gamma-ray emission above a few tens of GeV has been conventionally ascribed to the decay of neutral pions produced in cosmic-ray interactions with interstellar matter. Cosmic-ray electrons may, however, make a significant contribution to the gamma-ray spectrum at high energies, and even ...
متن کاملCosmic Ray Ionization of the Interstellar Medium
We consider a cosmic ray spectrum that is a power law in momentum down to a cutoff and derive a lower cutoff corresponding to Ekin ∼ (30− 60) MeV from the observed ionization rates in nearby diffuse clouds. While the real spectra of cosmic rays may not be so simple, we argue that one expects a substantial change in the spectra at such energies and that, at first approximation, a power law spect...
متن کاملCosmic-Ray Positive and Negative Electrons
A determination of the specific ionization of cosmic-ray particles, 6rst, by a count of the number of drops per cm along cosmic-ray tracks on cloud-chamber photographs and, second, by measurements of the energy loss in lead has shown that the great bulk of the cosmic-ray particles of positive charge are positive electrons. The primary ionization was found to be about 31 ion-pairs per cm in air ...
